A Jock McDonald Remix Project by Pete Smith.

This blog is a running journal that was made in conjunction with my artist residency at the Robert McLaughlin Gallery in Oshawa, Ontario, Canada that took place between December 2014 and February of 2015.

I want to explore the materiality of the internet.

Studio Note:

Although this exhibition is inhabiting many forms, including conceptual art, my approach to all of it is that of a painter. The distinction, for me, is this:

A conceptual artist, at least in the classic Sol Lewitt-ian sense, conceives of an idea, wrestles with it in their mind, and then executes that plan. A painter, on the other hand, allows an idea to evolve through the act of making. There is an inherent call and responsiveness here, a snowball rolling down a bumpy hill.
